We invite your family to our second Family Game Night of the school year on Thursday, Feb 15th.  We’re meeting from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at South Elementary School.  We will play some strategy games, have a snack, and get to know other families involved with the District 47 EC program.  We’ll have plenty of games on hand, but feel free to bring your own favorite strategy game!

CLFOGE Monthly Meeting @ Panera Bread - Crystal Lake

Our next meeting will be held at 6:30PM on Thursday, March 1st at the Panera Bread, Route14 Crystal Lake. We will recap the results of our book sale (THANK YOU to everyone that helped us out this year!) and discuss our upcoming events such as Challenger, Summer Enrichment Fair, Science Fair and Sphero robots for our EC classrooms. .  The meeting is open to everyone.

Challenger Mission – Middle School @ Challenger Learning Center

Crystal Lake Friends of Gifted Education (CLFOGE) will once again be sponsoring space missions at the Challenger Learning Center for Science and Technology in Woodstock! This opportunity is open to District 47 EC students in 4th–8th grades.

Cost: $20 for CLFOGE members and $30 for non-members


For Middle School students’ :

Mission:                Mars Mission ,Starlab & Robotics
Date:                   March 3th 2018, Saturday

Times:                  10:00AM-2:00PM

Program Schedule:

   10AM – 12PM Space Mission 

   12PM – 12:30PM     Lunch   *Bring nut free sack lunch.

   12:30PM – 2:00PM Starlab & Robotics

 

Participants will be placed into 9 possible positions they are – COMMUNICATIONS, NAVIGATION, ROVER, WEATHER, MEDICAL, LIFE SUPPORT, BIOLOGY, ROBOTICS and GEOLOGY. Students will have to work together to accomplish their mission goals: to search for evidence of life on Mars, to search for evidence of water, and to keep everyone safe. Using teamwork and creative problem solving, the crew will be able to continue their research on our neighbor planet.

Digital STARLAB – with this new Starlab program, 6-8th graders will study our galaxy and universe, the formation of our solar system, plate tectonics on Earth, as well as the differences between Earth and the inner planets.

ROBOTICS – Cubelets and MOSS robotics kits use magnetized pieces in order to construct their robots. Students will complete a series of design challenges with these robotic kits.

Group-2       :        12PM – 2PM Space Mission – Rendezvous with a Comet

Participants will be placed into 9 possible positions (COMMUNICATIONS, MEDICAL, ISOLATION, LIFE SUPPORT, DATA, NAVIGATOR, PROBE, REMOTE, and PRESS PASS) and will be working as astronauts in the Space Station and communicating with their teammates in Mission Control. The missions require the cooperative effort of the nine teams. Teams will do a crew change so that each team will experience Mission Control and the Spacecraft. This authentic setting will provide the students with a multi-sensory environment where they will apply math and science skills.

What is FIRST LEGO League?

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8**) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.

All EC parents and kids who are interested to start/join First Lego League Robotics team are welcomed to join on our informational meeting at CORE Center.

Summer Enrichment Fair @ Hannah Beardsley Middle School

Come check out the amazing summer programs available for our gifted kids.  There may be representatives from many local organizations like MCC, Harper College, Bricks 4 Kidz, Challenger Learning Center, Camp Invention, Mathnasium and many others.  The event will be at Hannah Beardsley Middle School from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm.

CLFOGE Dinner Meeting! @ Colonial Cafe

For our last meeting of the year we will be getting together for dinner on May 11th, 6PM at Colonial Cafe – Crystal Lake, Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL

We’ll have a few laughs as we reflect on the past year and begin planning for next year’s events.

Dinner will be Dutch-Style (each pays their own bill).

All parents and teachers are welcome to join us.
